"Responsabilidad Civil" (Liability) coverage in an auto insurance policy

"Responsabilidad Civil" (Liability) coverage in a car insurance policy is one of the most important and mandatory coverages in Mexico. Its purpose is to protect you financially by covering damages you cause to other people or property in a traffic accident.

What does this protection cover?

Property damage: Repair or replacement of property damaged from a third party (another car, a house, a fence, etc.).

Injury to people: Payment of medical expenses, disability, or compensation for death to the victims of an accident for which you were responsible.

Moral damage: In some cases, additional compensation for the suffering caused to the affected individuals.

Example:

If you lose control of your car and damage the façade of a house, "responsabilidad civil" (liability) coverage will cover the repair costs. Similarly, if you injure someone, this coverage will pay for their medical expenses or compensation.

Liability limit:

The maximum limit is specified in your policy. If the damages exceed this amount, you will need to pay the difference.
