In case of a car accident, having a car insurance in Mexico can make the incident less stressful if you follow these steps:

Steps to follow:

  1. Ensure everyone is safe: Check if anyone needs medical attention.

  2. Take photos of the accident: Capture the damages and the position of the cars.

  3. Call your insurer: Provide your policy number and location.

  4. Wait for the insurance adjuster: Do not make any agreements with the other party. The adjuster will take photos, assess the damage, and guide you through the process.

  5. Do not admit fault: Stick to the facts. Let the adjuster and authorities determine responsibility.

What to do if the other driver doesn’t have insurance?

If an uninsured driver hits you, your policy may cover the damages depending on your coverage.

Options in your insurance:

  • "Daños Materiales" (Collision) Coverage: Covers the damage to your car, even if the other driver doesn’t have insurance and is at fault for the accident.

  • "Responsabilidad Civil" (Liability) Coverage: Applies only if you are at fault for the accident and covers the damages you caused to a third party.

Practical example:

If you crash into another vehicle at a traffic light, call your insurer. The adjuster will check the damages and let you know if you need to pay the deductible or if the other party has insurance and is at fault.

Documents you need to have:

• Insurance policy.

• Driver’s license.

• Vehicle registration card.

Additional recommendation:

Save your insurer’s contact details on your phone to act quickly in case of an emergency.
